[AD]Machik’s Summer Enrichment Program

Thank you for your interest in Machik’s Summer Enrichment Program (tentative dates: July 26-August 22, 2010). To have your application reviewed please send a copy of your Resume, Personal Statement, and Reflection Essay (details below) to Tenzin Dolker at tendol@machik.org with the subject heading “ATTN: Last Name, First Name; SEP Application.” Your Personal Statement should be no more than 500 words and should discuss the following:

· Why are you interested in volunteer work? Why do you want to volunteer with Machik? What
specific skills or interests would you like to bring to Tibetan children (i.e. soccer, drama, arts & crafts, etc)? Why?
· What kind of experience do you have working with children?
· Do you have teaching or tutoring experience? If so, please describe the subject, lesson plans, and students you have worked with.
· Do you have experience abroad? And if so, what kind of challenges have you faced?
· What do you hope to learn from the Summer Enrichment Program?
· How do you hope to be remembered by the community – students, teachers, and others?

In addition to the personal statement, we require you to write a reflection essay on the attached paper Sino-Tibetan Dialogue in the Post-Mao Era written by Tashi Rabgey, Machik’s co-founder, and our Charter for Engagement. Given the challenges of working on the Tibetan plateau, it is very important that you have a broader context in which this work takes place. We highly encourage you to read further on Tibet and China for your essay. For your reference, we have attached a reading list.
